While the Metroid series has definitely had extended breaks between releases, Samus’ Adventures are well-loved by a fan base. Between 2D and 3D games, there are many memorable moments that people love. That said, compared to other Nintendo franchises that have been around since the 1980s, there aren’t many games here. Here are all the Metroid games in order of release.

How many Metroid games are there?
There are currently a total of 15 games in the Metroid franchise, including spin-offs and remasters, 16 of which are still on the way. Here’s the full list in order of release.

When talking about the Metroid series, Prime games are generally considered separate from the main series. As you can see from the list above, although Prime Trilogy is generally the best known, there are a few spinoffs.
While some people would consider Metroid among Nintendo’s biggest franchises, sales-wise it doesn’t come close to games in the Mario, Zelda, Kirby, and Animal Crossing series. Where these series struggle to sell copies, Metroid often fights tooth and nail to crack a few million unit sales. Metroid Dread is currently the best-selling game with almost 3 million sales.
