A serious bug can destroy entire worlds in Valheim. The developer warns and provides assistance.

Be careful if you are currently playing Valheim! According to Iron Gate Studio, there is one serious bug floating around, that can destroy the entire memory. Then your world, your characters and all tedious progress would be lost.

Developer Richard Svensson announced the problem on Twitter. We will give you quick help on how to secure your world and possibly avoid the mistake entirely.

What you can do – and are not allowed to do

Create backup: Take the folder under the Windows path “C: Users > Username > AppData > LocalLow > IronGate Valheim” and copy it to a safe place on your hard drive. Then you have a reserve in the event of a serious error, which you can then copy back to the path mentioned in order to reset your world to the old state.

Just finish Valheim properly: Above all, Iron Gate warns players not to quit Valheim with the key combination “Alt + F4” because the World Destroyer bug then occurs particularly frequently. Therefore, the developer recommends exiting the game only from the main menu.

So far, the Valheim makers have not once succeeded in reproducing the error. This is a necessary process in order to identify the source of the problem and eventually fix it. Therefore, currently only the security measures listed above help to know your world is safe.

One user also reports that the game progress on a dedicated server was also affected by the world destroyer bug. Iron Gate has also taken care of the matter. In addition, the game progress was mysteriously reset on a dedicated server. Here, too, the developer is on the trail.
