A new Professor Layton game is in development. Developer Level-5 has unveiled a trailer for the game, which also confirms its title: Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.

The trailer shows Layton walking through a Steampunk-style town, before turning to the camera.

No other information about the game or its release date has been confirmed.

The Professor Layton series was hugely popular on Nintendo DS and 3DS, with over 17 million units sold as of June 2018.

The first four games – Curious Village, The Diabolical Box, The Unwound Future and The Last Specter – were released on DS.

These were followed by two more games, The Miracle Mask and The Azran Legacy, on 3DS.

Level-5 also partnered with Capcom in 2012 to release the crossover title Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which draws on elements from both series.

The most recent game in the series was Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy, released for 3DS in 2017.

In a brief statement on the game, Nintendo said: “In the new entry in the beloved series, Professor Layton will face new puzzles in a new setting.”

“Solve epic puzzles as you progress through the story in this fantastic puzzle adventure. Stay tuned for more details in the future.”
