Chinese superstar Zhang Ziyi could not hold back tears in a Beijing court today. The 46-year-old actress cried out “This is not fair to me!” as she fought a company that claims she owes them over 600 million yuan (about $83 million USD) from a broken contract.
The case started in 2021 when a film and TV firm accused Zhang of taking big payments but not finishing promised work. They say the total loss is around 600 million yuan. Zhang’s side says the projects were stopped because of the pandemic and other issues outside her control.
In court, Zhang got very emotional. She told the judge the long fight has hurt her health and family. “I have been dragged into this for years. It’s not fair,” she said through tears. Photos and videos from the courtroom quickly went viral on Chinese social media, with many fans sending support.
This is one of the biggest contract fights ever for a Chinese star. The court has not made a final decision yet. Another hearing is set for next year.
Fans are worried about Zhang, who has stayed low-key since her 2023 divorce from singer Wang Feng. Many hope the case ends soon so the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actress can move on.
