The War of the Rohirrim will be a prequel to The Lord of the Rings.

Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) will direct the animated feature The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, which will be released in theaters on April 12, 2024. Philippa Boyens, of the he writing team behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies is executive producing alongside Joseph Chou. The team of Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou wrote the screenplay based on a script by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. The creative team also includes Richard Taylor and renowned Tolkien illustrator John Howe. Finally, animation work has been in the works since last year at Sola Entertainment, with a full and exciting voice cast to be revealed shortly.
