Taylor Swift can celebrate yet another record: the singer now has the highest-grossing concert movie in US history. According to data released by distributor AMC Theatres, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” grossed between US$ 95 million and US$ 97 million in its opening weekend, according to Variety and CNBC.
The premiere took place on October 13 in North America, with an estimated audience of 4.8 million people. In Brazil, the film arrives on November 3rd.
CNBC says that around 60% of tickets were bought in advance for Sunday’s screening. According to the British newspaper The Guardian, the film opened in 3,855 locations in North America.
According to Variety, the international box office took in between US$31 million and US$33 million.
However, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” fell a few million short of its initial goal of $100 million at the box office, according to some initial forecasts.
On the other hand, Taylor Swift became the biggest concert movie in US history, beating the 2011 film “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never”. Bieber’s movie grossed US$73 million.
The film could still be the best debut of October if it beats, for example, the 96 million dollars of “Joker”, made in 2019.
Taylor Swift’s tour arrives in Brazil in November

Taylor Swift will also be performing in Brazil in November. The dates are the 17th, 18th and 19th in Rio de Janeiro and the 24th, 25th and 26th in São Paulo.
