Daisy Ridley will return as Rey in a new Star Wars movie as a new trilogy is being prepared.

Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, while Dave Filoni and James Mangold will direct other films in the franchise. The news was revealed this Friday at the Star Wars Celebration in London, which featured an appearance by Ridley herself.

The film will take place after the events of her previous appearance in the franchise, Episode IX: The Skywalker Ascension, as she builds a new Jedi order. Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders is writing the film. He takes over from Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson who were previously attached as writers.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy already has a relationship with Disney as she recently directed episodes of Miss Marvel. The Pakistani-Canadian director has won two Oscars for her documentaries Saving Face (2012) and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness (2015). She was also announced to direct her first scripted film Brilliance, produced by Will Smith.

After that this Star Wars film directed by Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni and James Mangold will each direct a film in the franchise, one of which will be focused on Dawn of the Jedi and the other on the New Republic.
