The 2023 awards season comes to an end on Sunday, March 12, with the long-awaited 95th Academy Awards, organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This year there is great expectation, but also a lot of uncertainty about who will win the top award of the night. Although there are still a couple of hours to go to know the final result, some fans have placed their bets and have identified one film as the possible winner of the night.
Who are the favorites to win the 2023 Oscars in the main categories?
This edition of the Academy Awards is very special for Argentines, as Argentina,1985, the film directed by Santiago Mitre and starring Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani, is competing for Best International Film. This generates a lot of excitement and fans are waiting to know the contents of the envelope that will be read at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
But, undoubtedly, the most important category of the night is Best Picture. Debates and analyses were held and some even resorted to betting. The site Bplay allows betting on which of the 10 nominees could win among Tár; Elvis; Top Gun: Maverick; Avatar: The Way of the Water; The Triangle of Sadness; They Talk; The Fabelmans; All Quiet on the Front Lines; The Spirits of the Island; and Everything Everywhere at Once.
According to the betting site, the most likely to win Best Picture is Everything Everywhere All at Once, which swept the awards season. It would be closely followed by The Banshees of Inisherin and then, although a little further away, The Fabelmans.
The betting site ranked Top Gun: Maverick -the second part of the 1986 film- in fourth place, All Quiet on the Western Front in fifth place, Tár in sixth place and Elvis, starring Austin Butler, one of the great favorites to win as best actor, in seventh place.
The three least likely to win, according to the betting are Women Talking, Triangle of Sadness and Avatar: The Way of Water. Although according to the website, Everything Everywhere at Once has the edge, we will have to wait until the early hours of Monday to find out who wins the top prize.
