Kate Winslet will return as Ronal, a Na’vi from the water tribe.
Actress Kate Winslet will return to Pandora in “Avatar 3”. Director James Cameron has confirmed that she is in the cast of the third film in the franchise, which was shot simultaneously with “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022).
Kate made her debut in the blockbuster franchise in the role of Ronal, a Na’vi from the water tribe. In an interview with People magazine, James Cameron said: “When you see her doing that purification ritual to try to revive Kitty in the movie and some of the things she’s going to do in the third movie, that’s based on real practices”.
According to him, Kate Winslet studied shamanic practices to play Ronal. The character marks the reunion of the actress with the director with whom she worked on another blockbuster, “Titanic” (1997), winner of 11 Oscars.
Delayed release of “Avatar 3”
“Avatar 3” will be released in theaters on December 19, 2025. The delay is due to meticulous post-production work, as the film requires a lot of visual effects. Producer Jon Landau explained that they would rather take their time than deliver something of lesser quality.
“Look, we don’t want to do anything in any area without quality. And if someone says to us, ‘hey, I know it would be better to release this toy at Christmas, but it’s just not going to be perfect. Wait! Do it later, make it perfect, because that’s our philosophy,” he said.
They also know that the public’s expectations are enormous when they hear about “Avatar”, because of the technological innovations proposed in each movie. “Avatar” (2009) is the highest-grossing film in the history of cinema, with US$ 2.9 billion, and “Avatar: The Way of the Water” (2022) brought in another US$ 2.3 billion at the global box office.
