Indiana Jones: When is the last film in the saga released?
At the press conference for ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’, the well-known and acclaimed Harrison Ford talked about his character and what it was like to play the legendary Indy in his retirement.
“I think the strengths of Indiana Jones are several. And we’ve demonstrated his strengths over the course of four films. Now we’re entering a new phase of his life. And we’re seeing him after the 15-year absence. He’s aged a little bit, he’s retiring. We’re meeting him on the last day of his academic retirement.”
Likewise, he noted about the character that “we’ll meet him at a point where he’s at a low point that we haven’t seen before and I think, dramatically, it works very well because, at that point, we also introduce Phoebe as the character that really stimulates the plot that’s going on. So I guess her weakness is the ravages of time.”
On why he decided to return to the role of the archaeologist, Ford said, “I was very excited when I read the script that Jim and the Butterworth brothers had done, so there was no barrier to doing another chapter of their story, I was eager to do it.”
Saying goodbye to this character was very special for Harrison as this was a singular character. “He, Indiana, has been a singular experience that, in some ways, you can’t put in the same category with other movies. It doesn’t feel different, but it feels right because of the way this goodbye is going.”
He also noted, “I feel good because I feel like we’ve made a really satisfying film for the audience. We’ve taken our concern, our interest in the character, and tried to shape a story that would bring this character back into their lives with an interesting story. And I think given the people that we’ve involved in the character and the nature of the story that Jim has created for us, it’s a splendid send-off.”
