Time flies and the Golden Globes once again celebrate a new edition to show the best of cinema and television according to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. This year we had excellent films and performances, some of them managing to garner social media attention for a considerable period of time. The list of winners is here and we can say that we have had some surprises during the night.
This year we are probably facing the most controversial situation that has been seen for the Golden Globes. There was no red carpet, no guests, no ceremony and even less a live broadcast. Since 2021, numerous media have reported the lack of diversity among the members of the organization as there is not a single Afro-descendant voter. The association announced a reform noting that things would change and the Los Angeles Times reported that important arrangements had been made in the board, however, they were not enough for NBC to be willing to buy the broadcasting rights and that numerous studios and experts in the subject will continue to support the event.
This was reinforced by the Emily- related scandal in Paris (95%) early last year, when the Los Angeles Times reported that several members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were invited by Netflix producers to see the filming of the first season. According to the news outlet, voters received all kinds of luxuries during the visit and curiously afterwards came the double nomination for the series, despite being destroyed by critics seeing it as a compendium of stereotypes and unpleasant clichés about the French. . The previous problems have left the Association as a racist and corrupt entity that few now want to support.
Some thought that due to the controversy we would not have Golden Globes this 2022, however, the list of competitors finally arrived in mid-December and we had great nominees such as Belfast (89%), Succession (100%) The The Power of the Dog (98%). Although there was no ceremony tonight, the winners’ compendium is already available and we present it below:
