Busta Rhymes gave a surprise rush of adrenaline to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Sept. 12.)

Swizz Beatz teased Busta Rhymes before he took to the stage. The Brooklyn native is an “hip-hop icon behind some the most dopest videos ever” and has some of the best rhymes. Busta displayed verbal gymnastics that Eminem would envy during his set.

Spliff Star joined the group and the set started with Rhymes’ 1997 hit “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See”. The stage was covered in fog and lit in a golden hue. Two men were wearing matching bright red and white outfits.

M.O.P. followed it. M.O.P. followed it with their “Ante Up” remix. Rhymes also appeared on A Tribe Called Quest’s classic “Scenario,” on which he was featured with Remy Ma, Teflon and Teflon. “Touch It”; Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now,” on which he guested with Lil Wayne. Finally, they ended with “Pass the Courvoisier.”

Rhymes informed the live audience that he had wrapped up the set.

The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards broadcast live to a live audience at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Doja Cat hosted and performed at the ceremony.
