“Avatar: The Way of Water”: behind the story

The tape takes us back to Pandora to see the life of the Sully family, that is, Jake and Neytiri Sully, together with their children. A series of events displaces the Sullys from their home and they must travel “through the vast reaches of the moon Pandora, eventually fleeing to the territory held by the Metkayina clan, who live in harmony with the oceans that surround them,” he says. Disney in the production notes for the “Avatar” sequel.

This second part began to be written in 2010, the production notes indicate, when director James Cameron together with producer Jon Landau met in a hotel in Santa Barbara, California, to analyze cinematographic processes and which ones have worked, says Disney.

For the “Avatar” sequels, Cameron packed all the ideas and other plot lines into 1,500 pages of content. He subsequently hired a number of Hollywood writers to develop the “Avatar” strands, as well as this new Sully family story.

“We had to write four movies before starting the first sequel,” Cameron said in the production notes.

The characters in this sequel

Sam Worthington returns as Jake Sully. Of course, Zoe Saldana had to play Neytiri again. The Sully sons are played by James Flatter (Neteyam), Britain Dalton (Lo’ak), Trinity Jo-Li Bliss (Tuk).

Sigourney Weaver plays the teenage Kiri, the biological daughter of Dr. Grace Augustine. That character, who died in the first installment of the tape, was played by Weaver herself. Kiri is somehow adopted by Jake Sully and incorporated into the family clan.

Jack Champion is Spider, a human who came to Pandora as a baby. Joel David Moore is Norm Spellman. CCH Pounder returns to play Mo’at, Jemaine Clement is Dr. Ian Garvin and Brendan Cowel is Captain Mick Scoresby.

Where to watch “Avatar: The Way of Water”?

If you were hoping to be able to enjoy this tape in the comfort of your home, bad news. For now, the production will be available only in theaters. And perhaps that is the best way to enter the corners of Pandora. According to American film critics, the recommendation is to see it on the big screen.

If you are one of those who still prefers to see it at home, you have to keep an eye on Disney+ where they will probably make the tape available in a few weeks, after it leaves movie theaters worldwide.
