On September 12, the documentary Armed with Song will be released in Ukraine. This was reported by Sensor.
“Armed with Song” is a collection of stories about Ukrainian artists who, after February 24, 2022, began their fight against the Russians: some on stage and some at the front.
The film shows how important culture in general and music in particular are in the fight against the enemy, as Russians have been imposing their narratives in Ukraine for decades. Now artists are eradicating this and developing their own identity and Ukrainian culture.
The film features musicians and singers Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, Svitlana Tarabarova, Andriy Khlyvnyuk, Mykola Serha and many others.
The film is directed by American director and producer Ryan Smith. The film was funded by the Center for Leadership of former New York Governor George Pataki, who launched the Ukraine Assistance Fund in 2022.
Earlier, the film Yaremchuk: An Incomparable World of Beauty, which was released nationally on August 8, grossed UAH 9.9 million after its third weekend of release and became the highest-grossing documentary in Ukraine. It has recently become available on Netflix.
