Cyberpunk 2077: Gabe Newell (Valve) defends title and developers

While CD Projekt still faces a number of issues following the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, Valve boss Gabe Newell has stood up for the title and the studio.

In a long interview with the New Zealand media TVNZ, Gabe Newell spoke about Cyberpunk 2077. He began by indicating that the performance issues on console versions of the games were a problem often encountered by developers, before adding that he had a lot of sympathy for all the developers finding themselves in this situation. Regarding the title itself, Gabe Newell says:

There are some aspects of the game that are just great, and it shows a tremendous amount of work. It’s unfair to throw stones at another developer, because getting something as complex and ambitious as (Cyberpunk 2077) is pretty amazing. People get angry because they care about the game. When they get that kind of feedback, my first thought is to tell myself that this is an opportunity, and I guess the developers of Cyberpunk 2077 are doing it. the same in order to make improvements that will benefit customers.

They have a reputation for doing a great job, continuing to invest in their products over time, and I suspect they will be able to make their customers happy. Everyone knows that if you work in this industry the expectations are high. If you do it right, people will let you know, and if you don’t meet those expectations, they will let you know too. This partly explains for it is a fun industry.
