Uma Thurman spoke of this very personal experience that continues to cause her great sadness to oppose the new law on voluntary termination of pregnancy that has come into force in the state of Texas and is considered the most restrictive in the entire country because it prevents abortion from the sixth week of gestation without considering exceptions in case of rape or incest.
Uma Thurman said she started working in film at the age of 15 and that, in her late teens, she accidentally got pregnant by a man much older than her while living in Europe and just as she was about to start a new shoot.
Although she really wanted to have a baby, she did not see how she could do it in her situation and, after listening to the advice of her family, she decided that the best thing would be to resort to an abortion so that she could one day become “the mother that she wanted and needed to be”.
“We decided as a family that I couldn’t go through with the pregnancy and we agreed that termination was the right option. However, my heart broke. The abortion I had as a teenager was the hardest decision of my life, a decision that caused me anguish then and that saddens me even now, but it was the path to life full of joy and love that I have led,” says Uma, who has three children: Maya, 23, and Levon, 19, with her ex-husband Ethan Hawke, and little Moon, nine, with Arpad Busson.
