As a single mother, Madonna decided to adopt four more children, David Banda, Mercy James, Stella and Esther Ciccone, born in Malawi, one of the African countries with the highest rate of poverty and infant mortality.

Seeing the poverty of that country and under her foundation Raising Malawi, the singer inaugurated the “Mercy James” hospital, named after her daughter.

“I am asking you to help me on my birthday. I would like all of you to donate money to buy a bed. I need 50 beds,” she explained in her post.

This non-profit organization, which was founded in 2006, also built ten elementary schools across the country. Even because of the visualization that the singer gave to the problems of extreme poverty that Malawi faces in 2008, a documentary called “I Am because we are”, directed by Nathan Rissman, was released.

In addition, on the occasion of her 40-year career, the singer announced the reissue of her musical catalog for 2022, after reaching an agreement with Warner Music Group.

“From the beginning, Warner Music Group has helped me bring my music and vision to all my fans around the world with the utmost care and consideration. They have been incredible partners”, declared Madonna through a statement.
