Born in Sofia (Bulgaria) on October 20, 1994, Katrin Vankova is a young actress revelation who arrived in Catalonia when she was 5 years old. She has already made a name for herself in the theater as well as in the cinema or in outstanding television series. In fact, last summer she filmed in London for the eight-episode series Alex Rider, for Sony Pictures Television.
His parents ventured out and emigrated by car in search of new opportunities and arrived in Madrid. They lived a whole month inside the car “looking for a new life”. She only carried a bag full of dolls and lived it more as an adventure than with anguish. The father, through mutual friends, was offered a job and they ended up settling in Llinars del Vallès. Katrin says that for her parents it was hard but for her it has also been “strong”. She has never stopped feeling Bulgarian. She says that “Bulgaria roots me and gives me the essence of who I am”. She has lived in London but mostly in the neighborhood of Gràcia, where she currently resides and where she has already made a pilgrimage through five apartments. She says she has a love-hate feeling towards Barcelona, although she is very comfortable and feels the city is very much hers. She likes the peace and balance she finds, although sometimes she needs “more experiences and trips abroad”. She really likes to work in places where nobody knows her to feel “really free”.
She is getting very good reviews with ‘Justícia’, which was performed at the Sala Gran of the TNC before the coronavirus crisis.
She has already starred in a feature film, El viento es esto, by Pere Vilà, and six short films. She has also been a supporting actress in two more short films, and has taken to the theater stage with Pedro Páramo at the Almeria Teatre in Barcelona. Now she is getting very good reviews with Justícia, which, before the coronavirus crisis, was scheduled to run until March 22 at the Sala Gran of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya. He has also made several music videos and has worked in TV3 series such as La Riera, Nit i dia, Com si fos ahir or La fossa.
At the Berlinale Talents she was the only Spanish actress selected last year, and at the 2018 Sitges Film Festival she took the Blood Red Carpet award, which promotes young talent. She has auditioned in Hollywood (for the film Terminator: Dark Destiny, with director Tim Miller), and also in Canada with Adam Brooks, the director of Bridget Jones’s Diary. However, she does not want to take a career path towards Hollywood. She would like, however, to break into French cinema and also to share acting with Joaquin Phoenix or make a film with Xavier Dolan-Tadros. She loves acting in English. She is compared to actress Natalie Portman, which pleases her. She says that “it’s nice to be compared a good energy with another good energy”.
She states that she lives the feeling of “being able to create worlds and life”, and that along the way she stumbled upon photography, an art with which she lavishes both on a website and on Instagram, with an analog camera and with her cell phone. What inspires him most is love, anonymous people and the absurdity, and at the same time genius, of everyday situations. He is attracted to “capturing moments and little stories”.
She used to belly dance, as she loves ethnic music, but now she prefers other disciplines. She does not dare to sing in public, but she does it alone at home. She says that in her work she sees herself reflected as Katrin Vankova, a young woman who loves to listen to music and who likes to “spend time with myself, although I am not very quiet and relaxed”. She is very concerned about “how human values are being lost”. Her dream: “To become an 80-year-old grandmother and look back and be able to say: wow, what a good time I had, and how I made a mess of things”.
