Álvaro Osorio, father of the Colombian singer J Balvin, defended his son from the criticism he has received from René Pérez, popularly known as Residente.
The controversy arose after the interpreter of “What else for?” asked to boycott Latin Grammy 2021. The Colombian’s request generated not only reactions among his fans, but also that of some artists, being that of Residente one of the most viral responses, as he compared his music to a “hot dog cart”.
“I would believe you about the boycott if, I don’t know, last year when you were nominated 13 times you didn’t go to the Grammys. But there you didn’t ask for a boycott. You sure had a change of clothes for each award. But since you won only one Grammy out of the 13 nominations, now the boycott is back,” Residente said in a video that he later deleted from his social networks.
“I’ll explain to you so that you understand: your music is like a hot dog cart, which many people or almost everyone may like. But when these people want to eat well, they go to a restaurant and that restaurant is the one that earns Michelin stars”, he added.
Faced with these comments that generated great echo, the father of J Balvin took to his Instagram account to share an extensive message in which he emphasized that music “is friendship and respect”.
“Who does not like it? The whole world enjoys hot dogs. Music is light for the shadows. Music is peace and not controversy. Music is friendship and respect for difference,” Álvaro Osorio began in his message, which was accompanied with some photomontages of his son attending a hot dog stand.
Likewise, the Colombian’s father gave his son the title of “King of hot dogs” and referred directly to René.
“Welcome René to the light. Selling puppies is decent work. There are millions in the world. Josecito is very grateful because he is already planning to expand his hot dog business, it will be called the crazy dog chain. Friends of all, let us joyfully enjoy life that is so short.”
And also, he recalled that hot dogs are from the street, like urban music.
