The television star and Olympic champion Caitlyn Jenner studies the possibility of running as a candidate to govern California if attempts to hold a recall election against incumbent Gavin Newsom are successful.

Jenner’s intention was revealed earlier this week by the digital medium Axios, after which other publications such as Politico and CBS News detailed this Thursday that she is going to meet imminently with a group of advisers to prepare her strategy.

The movement reminds of the campaign in which in 2003 the actor Arnold Schwarzenegger became the governor of the most populous state in the US by beating Democrat Gray Davis in a recall election, a mechanism similar to the motion of no confidence but by direct suffrage.

Like Schwarzenegger, Jenner is a member of the Republican Party, a group that has not won in California for years and whose electoral successes have been linked to stars such as Clint Eastwood, former mayor of Carmel, and Ronald Regan, who served as governor of the state between 1967 and 1975 before ascending to the country’s Presidency in 1981.

Jenner, who was one of the stars of the reality show “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” has said in interviews that she identifies as conservative in economics and liberal in social affairs, being one of the most influential transgender activists in the Republican ranks.

According to the Political newspaper, the possible candidate will meet next week with Caroline Wren, a former campaign adviser to former President Donald Trump (2017-2021).

Jenner publicly supported Trump during the beginning of his term, stating that the conservative politician was a strong supporter of the LGTBQ collective, although she changed her mind in 2018 when the Trump administration prohibited transgender people from serving in the military.

“Unfortunately, I was wrong. The reality is that the trans community is being attacked relentlessly by this president,” she wrote in an editorial in The Washington Post.

Sources consulted by the Los Angeles Times state that California Republicans view Jenner as a candidate capable of standing up to the Democrats in a state known for its overwhelmingly progressive majority.

While the star has not spoken publicly, she has recovered her activity on Twitter, where after almost two years without publishing anything she has shared a critical message with the management of the pandemic in Los Angeles (USA).

Jenner rose to fame when she won the decathlon event at the 1976 Olympics, then married Kris Kardashian in 1991 and announced her transition to womanhood in 2015.
