Amber Heard is promoting her first movie since the end of that nasty chapter of her legal battle with her ex Johnny Depp, which remains to be seen if it will be the last. The actor sued her for defamation following an article in which she talked about her experience as a victim of domestic violence, even though she never mentioned him by name in the text, and a judge ruled in her favor.

She was at least left with the consolation that it was also recognized that her former husband had made slanderous statements against her, but in the end she was the only one who had to pay: a million dollars that their respective lawyers negotiated to find a less costly agreement to the 10 million dollars sentence imposed on her and the 2 million that Depp received.

Now Amber has resumed her career with the period drama ‘In the fire’ and has faced the subsequent promotional tour knowing that there will be no shortage of references and hints about the star of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. The performer consoles herself with the thought that the only thing she can control are the statements she makes and how hard she has worked on this project; the rest, what they think or say about her, is beyond her control. But neither is she willing to live in fear of going back to court because of what she might say before the cameras.

“Right now, all I want is not to have so many stones thrown at me. So let’s get the elephant out of the room and let me say it. I’m an actress. I’m here to support a movie. And that’s not something I can get sued for,” she told Deadline in an interview.

She is also optimistic about her professional future. Not many believed that her reputation or standing in the film industry would survive the media trial with Johnny Depp, but she insists that her work has not been tarnished by the tribulations of her personal life.

“I think I’ve earned the respect to let that speak for itself. It’s important enough. What I’ve been through, what I’ve been through, doesn’t define my career at all. And it’s certainly not going to stop it. So let’s talk about the movie.”
