The Bavarian manufacturer has taken the veils off its second two-wheeled electric vehicle after the CE 04 maxi-scooter, a particularly dynamic pit-bike offered in two setups and rideable even by 14-year-olds
Scooter or motorcycle? Both. For young and dynamic customers. It is the new Bmw CE 02, just presented in Berlin. An electric model with features that trace those of the prototype of the same name presented almost a couple of years ago. Its forms are similar to those of a pit-bike, but the German manufacturer calls the CE 02 an “eParkourer” to emphasize its predisposition to overcome city obstacles with ease. Bmw offers it in standard and Highline variants, equipped with a 15-hp powertrain that pushes it up to 95 km/h while leaving it within the reach of A1 license holders. However, both will also be available in a version depowered to 5 hp and with 45 km/h top speed to attract even 14-year-olds with Am licenses. It will be available in early 2024 with the following prices: the 15 hp version (125 cc equivalent) at 8,750 euros and while the 5 hp version (50 cc) at 7,750 euros.

COMPACT AND FUNCTIONAL DESIGN- The new Bmw CE 02 comes with an essential and jaunty design that immediately emphasizes its urban character. What is striking, however, is the great attention to detail, with control blocks and other elements such as footrests that would not look out of place on larger, more emblazoned models from the German giant. The standard version has a slightly darker look because of the much black, the basic color of the frame also taken up for the intriguing lenticular wheels, the front fender and the reduced fairing. Here the matte metallic gray of the engine cover is almost the only color contrast. Aesthetically, the Highline version is more extroverted and colorful thanks to the gold anodized fork and numerous Petrol-colored inserts. Also noteworthy are the adjustable levers and the position of the footpegs, which allow the rider to comfortably use even those theoretically intended for the passenger to change positions.

ENGINE, BATTERIES, PERFORMANCE AND LICENSES- The air-cooled powertrain consists of a synchronous motor that transmits motion to the rear wheel via two belts interspersed with an intermediate shaft and two lithium-ion batteries of 1.96 kWh each, although the 4 kW version has only one. Sixteen-year-olds with A2 licenses can take advantage of its full 11 kW (15 hp) output with rated power of about 6 kW (8 hp) while 14-year-olds with A1 licenses have to make do with the 4 kW (5 hp) configuration and 3.2 kW rated power. According to the manufacturer’s statement, the CE 02 at full power uses 55 Nm of torque to get from 0 to 50 km/h in 3″ and can exceed 90 km range on the Wmtc cycle. There are two driving modes: Flow, softer for city use, and the grittier Surf. However, there is also reverse gear to facilitate maneuvering at very low speeds. As an option for the Highline version there is also a Flash driving mode for the ultimate in sportiness.

RECHARGE OPTIONS- All configurations of the Bmw CE 02 come with a standard 0.9 kW external charger that allows the battery to reach full charge from zero in just over 5 hours for the 11 kW version and 3 hours for the 4 kW version. Going from 20 to 80 percent charge, on the other hand, takes only 2 hours and 45 minutes in the former case and 85 minutes in the latter. However, the operation can become significantly faster by using the 1.5 kW fast charger, which is available in the optional equipment of the 11 kW Highline: with this it takes only 3½ hours to go from 0 to 100 percent charge and one hour and 42 minutes to go from 20 to 80 percent.

CYCLISTICS AND WEIGHT – The CE 02 features a tubular steel frame designed to ensure great handling. The suspension department includes a high-performance 37 mm hydraulic fork and a die-cast aluminum single-sided swingarm connected to a single adjustable shock absorber. The braking system includes a single disc at both ends, but only the front one will be supervised by Abs. The handsome 14-inch alloy wheels, on the other hand, are matched by generous 120/80 tires up front and 150/70 in the rear that undoubtedly make a big impact visually. The seat height is decidedly low, only 750 mm, while the stated overall weight figure is 132 kg for the 11 kW version and 119 kg for the 4 kW version.
