For most skiers on the peninsula, the 2022-2023 ski season is coming to an end and with it comes the sometimes daunting task of storing all the equipment.

If it could be summarized in a single tip, this would be to store the material clean, dry in a place with low light and stable temperatures. If the material is stored in bags, leave them unsealed. But each type of material deserves special attention.

Textile

My recommendation would be to store clean garments for the next season, in a place with low light and away from humidity. Besides cleaning the clothes, it would be time to review zippers, if necessary they can be changed. Check the bottom of the pants for any cuts with the edge of the skis.

A very easy solution to repair those cuts, is to buy in a haberdashery some thermal patches and cut them to our taste, some heat with the iron and ready. For the most sybarites we can buy a thermal patch printed with a theme that we like. For washing, do it without adding softener and with low temperature.

Skis

Here I have no doubt, you have to keep the skis with a layer of wax without removing. This layer of wax will protect both the edges and the sole itself. When the next season arrives we will remove it with a scraper and brushes.

The skis should be stored in a dry, dry place without light and with no big temperature changes. We should also try to place them in such a way that we do not deform them and we can place paper in the contact area of the soles.

Bindings

We will lower the tension of the spring leaving it to the minimum. And if we are very sybarites we will look to place a little grease in the areas of movement. With respect to the brakes of the bindings, some people place rubber bands to keep them in a flat position and others leave them open to close the skis.

Boots

Boots should always be stored with the hooks and straps properly closed to avoid deformation of the boots. Some people store them separating the boot from the shell. It is advisable to check the soles and remove mud and small stones. Store them in a place with little light, dry and with few temperature changes.

To ensure the degree of humidity you can leave a sheet of newspaper at the bottom of the boot bag and place another sheet of newspaper inside the boot to absorb any possible humidity.

Helmet

The helmet may have been exposed to the sweat of our head and we can take advantage of the end of the season to remove the inner lining and wash it.

In short, it is a matter of checking all the material and carrying out the maintenance we deem necessary before putting it away for good to extend its useful life.
