Kadokawa made an announcement on Thursday regarding the television anime adaptation of “Doctor Elise,” which is based on the medical reincarnation fantasy web novels and vertical-scrolling manwha titled “Surgeon Elise” (Gekai Elise, or Oegwauisa Elise in Korean) written by Yuin and illustrated by Mini. The highly anticipated anime is scheduled to premiere in January 2024. Alongside this exciting news, Kadokawa also released a captivating key visual, a teaser promotional video, and introduced the main cast.

The anime is being directed by Kumiko Habara (known for works like “I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss”), and the series composition is skillfully handled by Deko Akao (noted for their work on “Komi Can’t Communicate”). The character designs are beautifully crafted by Yūko Watabe.
An Intriguing Storyline:
The story of the anime revolves around Aoi Takamoto, formerly known as the malevolent empress Elise, who met her demise at the hands of her husband, Linden. Reborn into the modern world as Aoi, she embarks on a path of redemption by becoming a surgeon. Tragically, her life is cut short in a plane crash, only to find herself reincarnated once again as Elise, ten years prior to her execution. Determined to alter her fate, Elise forgoes her marriage to Linden, thus preventing the impending tragedy. Equipped with her extensive medical knowledge, she resolves to pursue a career in medicine in her newfound life.
The Origins of “Doctor Elise”:
The manwha, created by Yuin and Mini, was initially serialized on KakaoPage in 2017. The English version, published by Tappytoon, is known as “Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp.” The series concluded in February 2021, comprising a total of ten volumes for the manwha and four volumes for the novels.
