The director general of the World Health Organization ( WHO ), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus , affirmed today, fearing that the right to abortion will be revoked in the US, that restricting access to this practice does not reduce its incidence but that “drags women and girls into unsafe procedures”.
“Women should always have the right to choose when it comes to their bodies and their health,” Tedros said on his official Twitter account, where he did not refer directly to the United States.
“Access to a safe abortion saves lives,” concluded the head of the WHO , an organization that in its corporate account on the social network also defended the right of women around the world to access safe abortion practices.
Women should always have the right to choose when it comes to their bodies and their health. Restricting access to #abortion does not reduce the number of procedures — it drives women and girls towards unsafe ones. Access to safe abortion saves lives. https://t.co/SdF81B5D1u

This Monday, May 2, a draft ruling of the US Supreme Court was leaked that, if it were to go ahead, would mean in practice the elimination of abortion protection, in force in the country since 1973, something that has caused a stir in the country and sparked public protests.
The draft, published by the Politico portal, has the support of at least five Supreme Court magistrates – that is, the majority of the nine judges that compose it – and its authenticity was confirmed the next day by the court itself.
