Carolina Losada says that, in recent years, she has received several proposals to work in politics. “I was called up by games of which I was very critical. You wouldn’t believe it … ”, she insists. However, this time the offer came from her sister, Georgina, a radical militant. “I told them I had to think about it,” Carolina Losada says.
Before saying yes to my sister, I went through a very strong internal process, because I was in a very good moment of my professional career, of expansion. I wanted to take a vacation to think about it, because it seemed to me that it was the most prudent thing to distance myself and just – I still don’t know where! – I caught coronavirus. It was super mild, but for two weeks I was “in”. And there I made the decision. I knew that if I wanted to do something for my country, it was time to do it. Because I wanted to leave and I have a lot of friends and neighbors who left. Now we have to make them want to come back.
Carolina Losada, as head of the list of Together for Change in Santa Fe, obtained 40 percent of the votes, beating Frente de Todos by more than 10 points. If the result is repeated in the elections next Sunday, not only will her seat in the Senate be assured, but she will also remove a seat from the ruling party and put in check the own quorum that Cristina Kirchner maintains in the Upper House.
“We all lived in the same building”
Carolina is the oldest of three siblings. “Two women and a man,” she clarifies. Her father, Antonio Fernando Losada, is a businessman, and her mother, Mabel González Carbone, was always dedicated to the home. Her first memories are of a huge family: “We all lived together in the same building in the center of Rosario. My grandparents lived on the eighth floor, my uncles on the ninth and we on the tenth floor. We also had a house in Funes, where the three families went every weekend. With my cousins we grew up as if we were brothers ” , Carolina Losada says and a smile is drawn on her face.
she attended high school at the Johann Goethe German school. she made her debut as a mannequin in Rosario, with only 15 years old, on the runway of Melocotón , the brand of Rosario businesswoman Andrea Garrone. It was there that Pancho Dotto discovered her and invited her to be part of her staff. “My mom wouldn’t let me go. My parents were afraid of the environment, beyond the fact that they trusted me and the education they had given me. Every time I returned to Rosario, Pancho insisted that I had to move to Buenos Aires to start my career as a model, ”says Carolina.
How did Pancho Dotto convince your parents?
she invited my mother to Buenos Aires to see where the girls who came from the interior lived. I had two acquaintances – who are now friends – living in Buenos Aires: Laura Tuels and Elisa Marchisio. They shared an apartment that was across from the agency. Pancho told Mom that, initially, she was going to live with them. Later, when I started working, I could become independent and go live alone. And that’s what happened. When I started to earn a little money I rented an apartment with Laura Tuels, Katia Fuks and Natalia Forchino, who today are my best friends. We talk all the time, we have a WhatsApp group.
There is a milestone in your career as a model: in 1996 you recorded the video clip of How is it possible that my side with Luis Miguel at her house in Acapulco.
– (laughs) I’m proud of the video, but when I see it I’m a bit ashamed because I dance very uncoordinated, nothing to do with the rest of the girls. But it has an explanation: when we recorded there was a giant monitor where everyone could see and follow the choreography, but from my position you couldn’t see anything because it was covered by a column. I remember that I told the director and she replied: “Don’t worry, you look divine, everything works out well.” And it came out terrible!
-Is it true that after recording the video Luis Miguel wanted you to join the tour?
-Yes. Actually, it was done by a person who was with him, I don’t really know the role he occupied and when I saw the series I tried to figure out who she was, but I couldn’t. When we finished making the video, this person came to tell me that Micky had asked him to tell me that she wanted to invite me to the tour she was doing in the United States, which started in Los Angeles. At first I said: “Yes!” And asked: “But what would I do? Because I don’t know how to sing ”, and she said:“ Nothing, you come and we had a great time ”. Right there I said: “No, I thank you.”
Carolina’s modeling career was brief. “I was tired, I felt like I wanted to do something else. When I came to live in Buenos Aires, I dropped out of Economics and Business Administration. I started thinking about going back to study ” , Carolina Losada says. she settled in Mendoza, where her father managed a winery, and began to study Hospitality. “I graduated, but I never went to process the degree because in the second year I realized that I was not going to work on that,” Carolina Losada says.
“I have two boys who live in my house who are like my children”
Carolina Losada has been in a relationship with photographer Luis Vayo for almost two decades. Carolina Losada says that her values, her way of thinking and seeing life made her fall in love. “He is a person who contains me a lot and if at some point I’m drowning in a glass of water, he takes me out,”Carolina Losada says. The talk becomes more intimate. We talk about her desire to have children, to start a family. “With Luis we were never completely decided,” Carolina Losada says. At one point we wanted, then we didn’t. And I believe that when you do not decide, you are deciding. We really liked the kind of life we had. But now there are two boys who live at home ”.
For some years now, Carolina Losada and Luis have collaborated with Familias de Esperanza. Through that organization, they met a six-year-old girl who visited them every weekend. “In this way, the boys know a different reality, a family where there is no violence and not a lot of bad things,” Carolina Losada says.
