Video: They demolish the partially collapsed Miami building completely

Demolition specialists detonated explosives on Sunday to topple the damaged building that remained standing after the partial collapse of a condominium in Miami, in South Florida.

The demolition of the building in Surfside was crucial to be able to resume the search for victims of the collapse of June 24, and also to open new areas to which rescuers can access. No one has been rescued alive since the first hours after the collapse. So far, rescue teams have recovered the remains of 24 people, and 121 remain missing.

Search efforts were suspended on Saturday to allow demolition workers to plant the explosives. According to rescue authorities, they would resume between 15 minutes and an hour after demolition.

The approach of Tropical Storm Elsa added to the urgency to carry out the demolition. According to forecasts, the meteor could bring strong winds to the area starting Monday.
