Colorado – Several people were injured after a hot air balloon crashed in Chatfield State Park on Sunday morning around 8 a.m., very close to the Chatfield Reservoir, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JSCO) said.
According to JCSO, three passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and three others did not need transportation.
The hot air balloon interrupted a celebration in Hannibal, Missouri.
The Chatfield State Park crash wasn’t the only hot air balloon crash, another was reported in Douglas County.
A second hot air balloon had a forced landing near Waterton Canyon, according to a spokesman for the Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife.
The County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) said the second balloon landed near the Roxborough subdivision with a pilot and four passengers, sustaining only minor injuries.
Strong winds caused tense moments on the trip and the pilot had to make the balloon make an emergency landing in the middle of a deserted area in Vallejo, California.
According to the second pilot, both balloons decided to make emergency landings after strong winds pushed them south, out of their normal northbound course, according to DCSO.
Both balloons were operated by dealerships in Chatfield State Park. The one that crashed in the park is operated by Rocky Mountain Hot Air Balloons, and the other by Cloud Based Balloons, according to CPW.
