The epicenter of the earthquake has been located near Cádiz and has hardly been felt in San Fernando, El Puerto de Santa María and Chiclana de la Frontera

The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has registered an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 near Cádiz during the early hours of this Tuesday, April 13 . The epicenter of the earthquake was located just 39 kilometers from Cádiz and according to seismographs, it took place in the sea , at a depth of 53 kilometers.

There should have been no material or personal damage, since the intensity of the earthquake has been low , having been perceived only in Rota, San Fernando or Chipiona.

The IGN makes available to the public a macroseismic questionnaire through which those affected can report what their experiences have been. The questionnaire, which was prompted by Fernando VI after the Lisbon earthquake in 1755 , allows citizens to send the official body information such as what they were doing during the earthquake, what their reaction was and whether the objects around them moved.

With this information, together with that collected by the seismographs, the IGN can alert the population of the intensity of the earthquakes and calculate the damage they have caused in the affected territory.

Today’s earthquake is the first to be recorded in the area in the last 30 days.
