The president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, announced this Tuesday a battery of more restrictive measures with the intention of stopping the advance of the coronavirus in the country, including the suspension of the obligation of all classes face-to-face.

According to Lacalle Pou, “the transmission of the virus today is given by young people, from 20 to 39”, after the meeting of the cabinet of ministers that he had previously convened due to the context of the increase in COVID-19 cases that the Latin American country is going through.

The president has also announced that at Easter the inoculation against the disease will also be applied to citizens between 18 and 70 years of age.

“The transmission of the virus today is given many times by young people, although it is relative”, so they have decided that “during Holy Week or Tourism we are going to open vaccination”, rescues ‘El Observador’.

On the other hand, in the press conference after the Council of Ministers it has been detailed that the purchase of more than 1.2 million doses of the Chinese biological Sinovac has been agreed, which would reach the national territory in May.

This Tuesday a second shipment of Coronavac with more than 1.55 million doses has arrived in the country, which is expected to begin supplying all those under 70 who do not belong to prioritized groups, who receive that from Pfizer.

In-person classes have also been suspended as a measure framed in this plan of action against the Executive pandemic until, at least, Easter in the city of Rivera, while in the rest of the country the obligation has been suspended.

Lacalle Pou has left the door open for the presence in other regions to be suspended, beyond Rivera, if the local authorities so determine.

Uruguay accumulates, so far, 73,770 cases of coronavirus, as well as 725 fatalities as a result of the disease.
