The exit poll and the first information from the TSE give a landslide victory to Bukele’s ruling partyThe president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, has celebrated the victory of the ruling parties – New Ideas and Gana – with the publication of the first results of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) and the exit polls, which would confirm its control over the Legislative Assembly.

The TSE has provided data with about 1,000 records scrutinized out of 8,451 – 11.82 percent scrutinized -, in which New Ideas – Bukele’s party – and Gana – an allied party – sweep their victory . In fact, New Ideas would have obtained more than half of the votes.

Bukele has insisted throughout the day on possible electoral fraud, after the delayed opening of some polling stations or the accusations he has leveled against the TSE of harming New Ideas.

A few hours after the polls close, Bukele has used what has become his usual communication channel, Twitter, to celebrate the “victory!” along with a video of fireworks.

A few hours later, he made reference to a CID Gallup exit poll, which gave New Ideas 67.14 percent of the votes –53 deputies – and WINS 9.12 percent – three deputies.

“Thank God. Thank you to the Salvadoran people,” added Bukele. Also New Ideas has celebrated this “victory” at the polls on their social networks.

These results also consolidate the fall of the traditional parties – the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) and ARENA.

El Salvador elects this Sunday the 84 deputies of the Legislative Assembly and the members of the Municipal Councils of the 262 municipalities of the Central American country and, although Bukele’s name does not appear on the electoral ballots, if the provisions are met, the president would show the majority in the Legislative.

More than 5.8 million Salvadorans were summoned to the polls at a decisive moment for the president, since until now the Assembly is the only counterbalance body that has stopped some of his most controversial actions.

Election day has left a participation of 51.5 percent, according to ‘La Prensa Gráfica’, somewhat lower than that registered in the last presidential elections of 2019 although higher than the past legislative elections.
