On Feb 11, 2022 we should see the film adaptation of Naughty Dog’s popular game series Uncharted in the cinema. Actor Tom Holland slips into the role of the adventurer Nathan Drake, whom we know as Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the last film adaptations in the comic series.
But Holland is dissatisfied with his portrayal of Nathan Drake.
Nathan Drake had to look cool
In an interview with GQ, the actor explains: “Once you start thinking about ‘Do I look good in this shot?’, Acting becomes something other than playing a character. I think there are elements of my performance in Uncharted, where I was kind of caught up in.”
“I want to look my best now. I want this to be my cool moment. I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy, basically I had to be Mark Wahlberg. Mine Character was supposed to be a fuc-ing action hero right now! Look, I didn’t see the movie so I don’t know if I managed it, but it was an important lesson I learned because sometimes it was less about getting this scene to the point, more about seeing my bulging biceps. That was a mistake and is something I will probably never do again.”
We’ll see exactly how this will affect the film. But we will probably get a Nathan Drake who has to look cool and is shown in special, iconic poses in certain scenes. We will only be able to judge whether the portrayal of the character or the film itself will suffer as a result when it starts in theaters in February 2022.
