Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano showed her discomfort after her unanimous decision loss to Irish Katie Taylor who retained her super lightweight world titles.
What was one of the best fights in women’s boxing in recent years ended with a controversial unanimous decision in favor of Irish Katie Taylor (95-94) against Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano, who did not hide her indignation for the result on Friday night at a packed AT&T in Texas.
In the preview of the expected fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, which ended up winning the ‘youtuber’ by unanimous decision, the two fighters were in charge of putting on a great show in front of the fans but in Amanda Serrano’s opinion the judges were not up to the task of what the fight was about.
“I gave her 107 more punches, they subtracted a point and she lost 95-94. People, the numbers don’t lie”, Amanda Serrano wrote in her social networks after the fight that generated good reviews for the level shown by both punchers and a lot of controversy for the result in favor of the Irish fighter.
The statistics of the fight registered that Amanda Serrano connected a total of 324 punches while Katie Taylor landed 217 punches on the humanity of her rival. However, the judges’ scorecards did not reflect the Puerto Rican’s dominance.
“I moved up three divisions for this fight and I was great again,” added the 36-year-old Puerto Rican who after this defeat left her record at 47-3-1 and 31 KO.
With this victory Katie Taylor, 38, retained the world titles in the featherweight division of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the International Boxing Organization (IBO).
This was the second fight between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor who had faced each other in April 2022 with the European taking the victory by split decision. Two years later they met again and the Irishwoman won again, although this time not without a bit of controversy.
Impressive cut on Serrano’s face
Another aspect of the fight between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor this Saturday night in Texas was the amount of blood that was seen thanks to a significant cut just below the right eyebrow with which the Puerto Rican ended up after receiving a large number of headbutts from the Irishwoman.
“To my fans I will always give everything I have. I’m a ruthless warrior and Katie is my friend, but her best attribute is her head. She doesn’t have punching power, but she’s a hard head, hahaha,” the Puerto Rican joked on social media in reference to the significant cut she had on her face.
Beyond the questionable result and how bloody the fight became due to Serrano’s cut, boxing fans were able to enjoy a great show that once again vindicated women’s boxing.
