The new agreement between Uber and Yellow Cab of Los Angeles will significantly improve wait times to connect with a driver.
Good news for all Uber users and Southern California residents. Yellow Cab of Los Angeles and its five partner fleets, serving cities including Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego, have sealed a strategic alliance with Uber that will revolutionize the way you get around California.
This strategic alliance promises to be a “win-win” for both drivers and passengers. According to William Rouse, CEO of cab operations, “We are thrilled to announce this alliance with Uber because it is clearly a win-win for drivers and passengers.”
Cab drivers will now have the opportunity to receive ride requests through the Uber app, giving them greater earning potential. They will no longer have to worry about finding passengers during off-peak hours or returning to the city when in the suburbs.
Reduced waiting times
The six cab companies in Southern California, which include San Diego Yellow Cab, California Yellow Cab, Los Angeles Yellow Cab, Long Beach Yellow Cab, Fiesta Taxi Cooperative, Inc. and United Checker Cab, total about 1,200 cars. Together, they provide almost continuous service along the California coast, from the U.S.-Mexico border to northern Los Angeles County.
After successful tests in New York and San Francisco, they’re introducing something new in Southern California to make your wait times even shorter, without having to pay higher fares. When you request a ride with UberX, you can be picked up by a cab driver if he or she is nearby. This means you’ll be able to start your trip faster than ever before.
According to Uber, passengers will pay UberX fares and know the fare in advance directly in the Uber app. This will allow you to plan your budget more efficiently and avoid unpleasant surprises at the end of your trip.
From Uber they detail that when you are matched with a cab, you will receive a notification and will have the option to accept or decline the trip. You will also be able to cancel the trip if you wish, just as with any other Uber trip. Your comfort and choice are the most important thing.
Better income
For those wondering about the results of this partnership, a recent analysis by SFMTA in San Francisco yielded surprising data. Cab drivers who took Uber app trips in the second quarter of 2023 earned an average of $1,767 per month for those trips alone, representing a 23.8% increase in income compared to cab drivers who did not participate in this initiative.
