The countdown to new music from Frank Ocean has officially begun! During his highly anticipated set at the American festival Coachella, the singer-songwriter finally confirmed that his next album is coming. It has been since 2016 that the singer has released another new album.

Although he said we’ll have to wait a while longer, his next masterpiece is indeed coming. Last weekend, Frank Ocean (35) was on display at Coachella. The R&B singer was Sunday’s headliner, which is notable because Frank Ocean had not performed at concerts since 2019 and had not been at Coachella since 2017.

Since the 2016 release of Ocean’s latest album “Blonde,” fans have been hungry for new songs from Frank Ocean. And although the singer-songwriter has released several stand-alone singles, including In My Room, Cayendo and Dear April, no new album has been released in the past seven years.

Speculations

During his show, Frank Ocean responded to speculation from fans that his return to the stage after nearly six years must mean new music is on the way. “I want to talk about why I’m here, because it’s not because of a new album,” he said before dropping the big news: “Not that there’s no new album …” The crowd shouted in chorus.

Sentimental

Frank Ocean got the audience quiet again after the euphoria over his new album when he started talking about his personal struggles and growth. Why he wanted to perform at Coachella has to do with his brother, who passed away three years ago. His brother, Ryan Breaux, died in a car accident in California on Aug. 2, 2020, at the age of 18. “My brother and I used to come to this festival a lot,” he said after singing the fifth song. “We were just dancing in that tent to the music and I know he would have been so excited to be here with all of us,” he concluded.

When Frank Ocean’s long-awaited new album will arrive is still a big question mark.
