Jack Black reveals that the video game adaptation to the cinema he most wants to see is that of Red Dead Redemption, specifying that the story of the Rockstar game is as good or even better than that of The Last of Us.
Following the release of Super Mario Bros.: The Movie this week, Black spoke to the BBC about video game adaptations, praising HBO and Naughty Dog’s work on The Last of Us.
“The Last of Us was fantastic,” he says. “And what’s crazy is how faithful it is to the source material. It’s basically all of the game with just a few tweaks. It’s going to win all the awards. They used the game almost like a storyboard and I I was like, ‘Wow, it’s the same'”.
“There are great games that haven’t been explored on TV or in movies yet,” he continued. “Maybe there will be a Red Dead Redemption movie? There should be, because I think it (has) as good a story or (one) even better than The Last of Us.”
Red Dead Redemption is an excellent candidate for a video game adaptation. The first and second games could be a good place to start, but given the accolades both Rockstar titles have already earned, an adaptation may not live up to what they’ve already achieved as games.
