“I want the culprit behind bars”: relatives demand justice for Norma Lizbeth, victim of harassment

Family, friends and acquaintances of Norma Lizbeththe high school student Teotihuacanstate of Mexico, which death after intimidation attackmanifested in the entity to demand that justice be done.

More than 100 people from the community of Saint John the Evangelist of Teotihuacán where is the official secondary school 518 annexed to the normal located in Teotihuacán, to demand an end to the bullying and that the authorities punish those responsible.

With banners and slogans like: “Viola al Bullyingand “You don’t look good, it makes others feel bad”, the protesters also demanded that the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) sanction the heads of the secondary school.

Relatives pointed out that Norma Lizbeth’s companions they harassed her because of her skin color and have wavy hair. They assured that they had already denounced the harassment on multiple occasions, but the school authorities downplayed the situation.

Alma Delia, older sister of the deceased, recalled that on February 21 Norma Lizbeth went on a date arranged by her stalker, hoping he would stop bothering her; however, she was brutally beaten while others watched, recorded and even cheered on the assailant.

In the video circulating on social networks, we observe that the attacker, identified as Aylin, take a stone to hit it on the head multiple times. During the attack, a bystander is heard warning that she was already “blood coming out”, while others encouraged him to punch him in the face as well.

Neighbors helped Norma Lizbeth clean the blood coming out of her nose. Subsequently, Civil Protection paramedics arrived and she was taken to a medical unit, as they took an x-ray and she had the broken nose.

For now, the principal of the official secondary school 518 annexed to the Normal School of Teotihuacán, Elizabeth Hernández Rosales, was removed from her post of the prosecution for failing to deal in a timely manner with the case of school abuse suffered by the 14-year-old girl.

After the protest, Norma Lizbeth’s parents and mothers of other bullying victims met with school staff, who pledged to change the teaching team assigned to the principal for alleged omissions in cases of student bullying.

The mothers also requested that the staff provided by Psychological attention to the students, because they indicate that lately the aggressions in the institution have increased.

“What happened in this meeting is that they are going to take more security measures, there are going to be more cameras inside the classrooms, there are going to be psychologists and, luckily they made the right decision to fire the principal, she is not going to work on any campus anymore,” Norma’s brother confirmed in an interview with Millennium.

Subsequently, the relatives of the young woman met with agents of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM), who assured that they will speed up the investigations to clarify aggression which caused the death of the 14-year-old girl.

“They are proceeding, now they are looking for more information to find him and issue the arrest warrant… (suffered) bullying, physical and psychological violence, maybe because she was skinny, she was very quiet, Very shy, She is very reserved to open up friendly, but the important thing is that I want justice to be done, I just want the culprit to be behind bars,” added the brother.

A few days later, she is recovering, Norma died. The medical record indicated that the reason was head trauma caused by the beatings she received from her classmate who bullied her at school.
