On day eight of the Peru – Liga 1 Betsson 2023 tournament, Universitario claimed victory at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega stadium, beating Binacional 1-2. The goal of the match for the locals was scored by Andy Polar (15′ 1T). While the away goals were scored by Emanuel Herrera (20′ 1T, penalty) and Alex Valera (48′ 2T).
Alex Valera rocked the stadium with his definition, in the 48th minute of the second leg. After receiving a corner from the left from Horacio Calcaterra, the striker took up position in the large area, finished with a header and the ball went into the goalkeeper’s left post.
Alex Valera was the figure of the game. The Universitario striker scored 1 goal and finished the opposite goal 3 times.
Emanuel Herrera was also important. The Universitario striker scored 1 goal and finished the opposing goal twice.
The match stood out for its intensity and the faults committed during the match. There was only one card, in the 21st minute of the first half, Stiwar Mena received a yellow card.
Binacional technical director Wilmar Valencia proposed a 4-5-1 strategy with Diego Enríquez in goal; Roberto Villamarín, Stiwar Mena, Yonatan Murillo and Anthony Rosell on the defensive line; Edson Aubert, Ángel Romero, Brandon Palacios, Andy Polar and Jack Durán in the middle; and Héctor Zeta in the attack.
For their part, those led by Jorge Fossati stopped with a 4-3-3 scheme with José Carvallo under the three sticks; Aldo Corzo, Williams Riveros, Matías Di Benedetto and José Bolívar in defence; Rodrigo Ureña, Martín Pérez Guedes and Piero Quispe in midfield; and Andy Polo, Luis Urruti and Emanuel Herrera up front.
The judge selected for the match at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega stadium was Joel Alarcón.
Binacional will host César Vallejo the following day. Likewise, Universitario will play at home against ADT de Tarma.
