Argentinian football mourned the death of Alberto Pascutti, historical attacking midfielder (he played a total of 275 games and scored 35 goals in three different categories) and football coach of Ascenso, with a past at All Boys, Tigre, Quilmes, Nueva Chicago, Deportivo Morón and Almirante Brown, among other teams. Endowed with a strong personality both on the field and on the substitutes’ bench, he left his mark on each of the clubs for which he played.
What was unknown was behind the scenes of his departure. On Saturday, when he died at the age of 65, the news was confirmed by José Úbeda, former player and former teammate of Beto, according to telam. But he hadn’t transcended the context. The event happened on the property that Sebastián Battaglia owns within the Parque Sarmiento (SB5 Sports), in the federal capital. There, Sol, the midfield girl we remember, was playing a match of the Nunez Leaguein the presence of Beto.
According to witnesses, the coach was angry at a referee’s decision and, after expressing his anger, he started to feel bad and decompensated. The police report says a cell phone arrived at the scene at 7:30 p.m. and officers “performed CPR until SAME arrived.” According to the same report, the doctor who arrived at the resort in the ambulance confirmed the death at 7:56 p.m. and the soccer field area was immediately closed.
The Saavedra-Núñez Circuit Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Prosecutor José María Campagnoli, intervened to determine the causes of death, as it is rigorous. The autopsy determined that he died of cardiac arrest and subsequent pulmonary edema.. The controversy was generated around the defibrillator. Sources close to Pascutti pointed out that the equipment was available, but could not be put into service. Journalist Pablo Carrozza went further on his Twitter account: “The defibrillator was in German and a palette was missing. They could have saved him.” So far, there have been no complaints from his family in this regard.
The Núñez League limited itself to expressing its condolences before Beto’s departure. “We have one of the saddest days in the history of our tournament ahead of us. We mourn the death of Beto Pascutti. Our condolences to the family and fans of Ascenso. Our commitment to the venue and to you means that today we must continue with the agreed date of Sunday. We will limit ourselves to merely informative content”, read the story posted on Instagram. GlobeLiveMedia He tried to contact the organization, but received no response.
Sol, his daughter, fired him on her social networks. “nothing will ever be the same without you. No football, no roasts, no birthdays, no laughs, no exploits. Daddy, I don’t understand what happened or how I’m going to ease so much pain. I remain calm because there is not a single day that I did not tell you that I love you and that without you I could not have been what I am. We are so equal, you left me so much, but we had so much left to live. You will never stop hurting me and you will never stop missing me. You have made me the happiest girl in the world and you have been with me every moment. I love you more than anybody. My heart has gone with you,” was the heartfelt letter she shared on social media, complete with a sweet photo with the DT when she was little.
It was the most sincere of dozens of messages sent to an icon of the rise, who left his legacy of passion until the last moment.
