It’s officially March, which means we’re getting closer to the end of the Wii U and 3DS eShops. This is your last chance to purchase content from both stores.
Some people may no longer be able to make a purchase. In August, Nintendo made it so that users could no longer use an eShop card to add funds to an account in the Wii U and 3DS eShops. Credit card support ended even sooner, as it was cut last may.
After March 27, it will no longer be possible to make purchases in the 3DS and Wii U eShops. This also applies to software that supports purchases, such as StreetPass Mii Plaza, Theme Shop, and Nintendo Badge Arcade. . In addition, it will not be possible to download free content such as demos.
The good news is that you’ll still be able to access old content and re-download items you’ve previously purchased. Nintendo previously stated, “Even after March 27, 2023 and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLCs, receive software updates, and enjoy online play on Wii U consoles and Nintendo 3DS.” .
If stores permanently close, we’ll let you know. Technically, the Wii Shop Channel is still up and running, so that shouldn’t be happening anytime soon.
