The long-awaited announcement has finally been made, but many questions remain unanswered… When will the first Elden Ring DLC be released? Is this a direct result of our ascension as an Elden Lord? Or a return to the past to better understand the catastrophe that devastated the Entre-Terre?
Splinterless people around the world have been eagerly awaiting the DLC announcement for Elden Ring. A little in the tradition, FromSoftware provides (almost) always extensions for its games, in particular its Souls. So everyone was waiting for a sequel to Elden Ring, Game of the Year 2022.
Without warning, a announcement appeared on social media, creating a tidal wave on Twitter. Elden Ring, Marika, Miquella, Torrent… New Lords of Elden have many questions. Here we will try to see (and especially speculate) the temporality in which The Shadow of the World Tree will take place.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the World Tree… a direct sequel to the main story?
Will it be the shadow of the world tree a direct sequel of our adventure as Lord of Elden?
From the only image presented by the studio, it seems. In effect, the world tree is burning, and whether it is you by the Exalted Flame or by Melina with the fire of the giants’ forge, the latter is irretrievably burned. However, there is nothing to say if the World Tree had not already burned down in the past.
Thus, there is already an element which makes it possible to identify temporality. But… what is Torrent doing with what appears to be Miquella, brother of Malenia, the Goddess of Decay? For those who don’t know, Miquella is a cursed girl. In fact, the latter is doomed to remain in a juvenile form. Thus, he tries to thwart his curse by grafting himself onto the sacred Tree that he cultivated with his own blood. However, Mogh, the Blood Lord and Miquella’s half-brother, was so enamored with him and the title of Lord Elden that he unleashed it so he could become his soulmate on the throne. Now Miquella is in stasis in a cocoon, eternally asleep. AFTERWARDS, why can we see it with torrent in this new image ?
Could Miquella really be Melina?
This is pure speculation on our part, but nothing is truly impossible with the Elden Ring lore. Indeed, Melina could very well be some kind of interpretation of Miquella. The latter appears out of nowhere and gives very little information about it.. With the magical blue dust cloud and her missing eye, many people think she’s part Ranni, but why wouldn’t she really be Miquella?
The latter suffers a disastrous fate: while trying to cure his curse, he is taken by his half-brother to become his fiancée. A narcissistic act that endangers the life of Malenia, but also that of Miquella. Afterwards, perhaps he would have led us to the World Tree to burn it and thus free it from its yoke ? The World Tree could interfere with his Sacred Tree, so its destruction would be more than necessary for its survival.
But why take a foreign form? Probably because he is too famous. In fact, Miquella was apparently liked by everyone in the Underworld, so if she made it known that she wanted to burn down the World Tree, the entire Golden Order could be doomed. Melina also has a first name very close to Malenia… Is it then another sister? Or a sign of affection from Miquella to her sister and protector Malenia? Note however thatit is very likely that Melina is Miquella’s sisterin the sense that Marika is presumably his mother.
There are a lot of gray areas in this character that help us.. The latter would have unfortunately burned during a mission entrusted by Marika. Then he lost all memory of his raison d’être and of the mission that had initially been entrusted to him.
The Shadow World Tree… A return to the past?
A return to the past seems impossible. In effect, we Shinless were banished from the underworld by María Thus, we were able to return to these lands thanks to the breaking of the Elden Circle. Fadinging Grace then invited us to return to these lands in an attempt to defeat all gods and demigods in order to reclaim the throne of Lord of Elden.
Without this event, it was purely impossible for us to live under the rule of Marika and Radagon. We must not forget that in the image presented by the developers, the World Tree is burned. It would therefore seem that only the present can be considered for the DLC the World Shadow Tree.
