To briefly recap, Luminous Productions still plans to work on Forspoken until May 1, 2023. Forspoken’s current plans include a performance patch and the “In Tanta We Trust” DLC. This plugin will be released in the summer of 2023, with more information on the aforementioned performance patch coming soon.
It’s unclear how much time Luminous Productions will have to spend on Forspoken after they merge. Luminous Productions was originally an internal Square Enix studio whose vision was to make AAA games with the Luminous Engine. Its employees are made up of those who worked on Final Fantasy XV. It is unknown if this merger will redeploy Luminous Productions employees as part of its reorganization or if they will stay together. Since Luminous Productions’ goal was to make games with the Luminous Engine, it’s also unclear if Square Enix still has any intention of using the engine to make games.
Luminous Productions will merge with Square Enix on May 1, 2023. Forspoken will continue to receive updates and fixes until then. Forspoken is available for Windows PC and PlayStation 5.
