San Juan, 26 Feb. The United States Coast Guard in Puerto Rico is searching this Sunday by land and sea for two fishermen who were reportedly lost in Mona Passage, west of the island, after going fishing in this area.

The agency identified the missing as Luis Eliel Guerra, 29, and Wilson Negrón.

As authorities explained in a statement, Guerra and Negrón set sail at 04:00 a.m. (0800 GMT) local time on Saturday from the northwest coast of Rincón for a ride aboard a “center console” style boat named Aquasport. .

They were supposed to return at 2:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. GMT), but never did.

Given this, the San Juan Coast Guard received a call from a 911 emergency system operator after a man alerted them to the situation.

The fishermen apparently knew which area they were going to and that they normally fished near Desecheo Island, as well as another fishing area about 40 nautical miles north of Desecheo Island.

In addition to the Coast Guard, police officers from Puerto Rico joined in the search.

For the moment, no relevance or sign of the fishermen has been seen.

Some of the transportation equipment the Coast Guard has activated in the search are helicopters, boats, and small planes. EFE
