Paris, 24 Feb. Catalan director Albert Serra, nominated for nine Césars this evening for “Pacification”, admitted that his cinema is appreciated “a little more” in France than in Spain.
“A little more, it’s obvious,” said the director in Catalan, questioned by the press to find out if he feels more recognized in France than in his country of origin, on the red carpet of the mythical theater Olympia in Paris.
Just before the start of the 48th Cesar ceremony, the most important in French cinema, Serra assured that he was not nervous, despite being one of the big favorites of the evening, and declared that s ‘he goes up to look for a price, he improvise.
“Like in the movies,” he said.
Among the nine nominations for “Pacification”, shot in French Polynesia, are among others that of the best film, that of Serra in the category direction, that of Benoît Magimel that of the best leading actor and that of Artur Tort in photography.
Only two titles outclass the exotic “thriller” signed by Serra in 2022: the comedy “L’Innocent” by Louis Garrel, which leads the nominations with a total of 11 nominations, and the crime drama “La Nuit du 12”, by Dominik Moll, which is 10.
It also aspires to an “As bestas” prize, from Rodrigo Sorogoyen, which competes in the category of best foreign film.
“Nervous, a lot, above all very happy, we had a very nice afternoon in Paris and we are very, obviously, grateful. We look at each other and it’s like, how did we get here? We don’t know, ” , joked Sorogoyen, in statements to the press when he entered the Olympia with screenwriter Isabel Peña.
Both said they weren’t at all “confident” of the win, as they were competing against films “which are very good”. ECE
