The president of the Republic, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO), again launched strong criticism against the new march called against the reform of the electoral law – better known as the Plan B— and in defense of the National Electoral Institute (INE).

In this sense, the president accused the “conservative bloc” of having called for the demonstration against Plan B, for which he called on interested citizens to participate:

“They call this demonstration on Sunday (February 26), as soon as the people who come know it: there is an interest group created by corrupt people (…) who know it so that they do not come here to say that they care about democracy (…)”, he cut short.

The Tabasco native added, in a tone of reproach, that if even with that the people were convinced to participate, they would be supporting “a regime of corruption and privilege.”

“Let them come if they like this diet. They are within their rights it’s a kind of masochism“, he accused.

In this context, and during the morning conference of February 21, López Obrador again described the defense actions of the INE as measures taken against his government.

“Basically, what they want is to regroup, to use any flag to attack the government that I represent. It’s not that they’re worried about democracy, no. What they want is to weaken us, to undermine the government so that it does not move forward and consolidate and they can come back and continue to steal,” he charged.
