If you want to spruce up your Room of Requirement with some cool but easy-to-obtain decorations, consider finding all the Butterfly Kaleidoscopes on the world map in Hogwarts Legacy. Much like Merlin Trials or Treasure Vaults, Butterflies are points of interest in the Highlands, where you must follow the colorful butterflies to a hidden treasure chest. The cache only appears once the butterflies have reached their fixed destination, so you won’t find anything if you search the same place before. Some butterflies will take you a few feet from where they started, while others will take you on an extended walk.

How to Interact with Butterflies in Hogwarts Legacy
Gamepur screenshot
No spell is needed to “activate” a kaleidoscope of butterflies in Hogwarts Legacy, as the insects will begin flying to their destination as soon as your character touches them. While riding your broom to follow butterflies is better than chasing them on foot, you don’t have to follow butterflies for them to move. In other words, you can wait for them to hit the chest before picking up the loot. Just make sure to keep an eye out for your map icon in Hogwarts Legacy to avoid losing your position.

Most Hogwarts Legacy players will likely encounter their first kaleidoscope of butterflies during the “Follow the Butterflies” quest. You can start this quest by talking to Clementine Willardsey, an NPC in the Three Broomsticks of Hogsmeade. She’ll ask you to follow a butterfly trail north of the Forbidden Forest Floo Flame. The kaleidoscope will guide you to a spot in the forest next to a cluster of moonstones near the Collector’s Cave. You do not need to complete this quest to find the Butterfly Treasure Chests in the open world.
