“No news ahead”, “Elvis” and “Everything everywhere at the same time” the winners at the Bafta 2023, where to watch these productions in streaming

This weekend was the 2023 edition of the Bafta Awards, which celebrate the highlights of cinema in the United Kingdom. However, the big favorite of the evening was a German feature film set during World War I, No news to come. The production won seven awards: Best Picture, Director (Edward Berger), Adapted Screenplay, Sound, Cinematography, Soundtrack, and Film Not Spoken in English. Cate Blanchet was crowned best actress for Warehouse.

With his seven victories, No news to come, based on the novel by Erich Maria Remarque written in 1929, It was established as the film with the most awards won by a film that is not spoken in English. The plot follows 17-year-old German soldier Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer), who lies about his age with his friends in order to fight in World War I and thus earn the promised recognition, fame and glory. One of the surprises of the evening was its protagonist Austin Butler, who snatched the award from Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Brendan Fraser for The whale as best actor. Farrell was the favorite to take this category.

The biopic of the legendary American artist which is told through the point of view of his manager, also prevailed in the categories of best cast, cast and costumes. In this cinematographic proposal, filmmaker Baz Luhrmann depicts the story of the rise of the American singer, since the release of Altar of broken hearts in 1956 until becoming a music icon. This feature film can be seen on HBO Max.

The film the spirits of the island was created by obtaining four gold masks for supporting actress Kerry Condon and supporting actor Barry Keoghan, as well as the original screenplay and the English film. The film which can still be seen in some cinemas, explores the lives of two friends who stop being friends while showing how in a remote place where the inhabitants have little to do, one of these two characters decides to change his life.

The presence of Latin America came from the hand of filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who took the stage at the British Academy Film Awards to receive his prize for best animation for the feature film in stop-motion Pinocchio. This film available on Netflix follows the story of an innocent and mischievous Pinocchio who just wants to be free and loved by a grieving father over the loss of his son.
