Axel Kicillof and Daniela Vilar presented the Mi Provincia Recicla program: “We are transforming waste management”

Governor Axel Kicillof and the Minister of the Environment of the province of Buenos Aires, Daniela Vilartoday presented the program “My province recycleswhich is committed to “transforming waste management” in the territory of Buenos Aires. In this regard, Vilar pointed out: “This is the first time that the province is going to present a waste management plan, a roadmap to definitively and structurally solve the province’s biggest environmental problem: waste management”. .

“We present a transcendental public policy for the well-being and to improve the quality of life of all the inhabitants of Buenos Aires”, declared the minister during the act which took place at the interior golden room and brought together more than 30 mayors; the under-secretary of USR there Circular economy, Jackie Flores; the president of the CHEAT, Monique Capellini; the ambassador of France, Claudia Scherer-Effosse; representatives of the Korean Embassy; program representatives The United Nations for development and representatives of the world Bank.

During the meeting, Vilar and Kicillof presented the main thrusts of the program which include the sanitation and eradication of open landfills; strengthening recycling systems with social inclusion and environmental promotion and education.

“Garbage does not disappear: today 81 municipalities in the province dispose of their waste in open landfills which seriously affect the health of communities and workers,” said Minister Vilar. For this reason, he clarified: “We will advance in this first stage in the sanitation of 10 dumps and we will continue to strengthen municipalities and cooperatives with machinery, infrastructure and tools for urban waste pickers”.

Since the creation of Minister of the Environment, the program provided for the delivery of machinery and equipment to 60 municipalities and 87 production units and recycling cooperatives, reaching an investment of $1,080,000,000. In addition, direct transfers to municipalities were made for $105,000,000 for the conditioning and enhancement of infrastructure in factories and green centers.

For this year, the development of the GIRSU provincial plan is planned in collaboration with the World Bank and the Korea Green Growth Trust Fund; clean 10 open dumps; and continue the delivery of machines, tools for urban waste pickers and trucks for municipalities and cooperatives. In addition, the World Bank, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of Korea and the Korea Institute of Industry and Technology will fund the development of a Circular Economy Center for the study of the volume and composition of waste.

– The “Sanitation and eradication of open landfills”, proposing the development of the GIRSU Provincial Plan; sanitation works and transformation of health cells; the delivery of machines for the remediation of landfills; the first Urban Revitalization Census and the territorial approach of technical teams for the preparation of executive projects.

-The strengthening of “Recycling systems with social inclusion”, which provides for the delivery of equipment and machinery for the recovery of waste to municipalities and cooperatives; delivery of inputs to encourage and facilitate sorting at source and differentiated collection; and the construction and improvement of separation and transfer plants.

– “Environmental Education and Promotion”, which will work on technical assistance to municipalities for sorting at source and differentiated collection, will also be carried out on Environmental Proponents Program and training on source separation in the agencies of State, institutions and civil society. Technical assistance will also be provided to major public and private producers of waste so that they manage their resources correctly.
