Argentinian freestyle is in a great moment. The domestic scene is the birthplace of the best international MCs and great talent can be found in mainstream leagues such as Red Bull and FMS as well as square competitions such as DEM Battles. The most interesting rappers are born from the place and discovering them about to make the leap to the professional circuit -or already with one foot in it- means witnessing their greatest efforts to achieve a dream.
just at this time is Nasir Catriel, the revelation of the Argentine under.
Who is Nasir Catriel?
In 2022, he traveled the country to participate in the most important events and score points for his promotion in the Freestyle Master Series Argentina (FMS), the national professional freestyle league. Not only did he start ringing for his mere participation, but for his performance and for the battles he gave beyond whether or not his opponent won. His real name is Catriel Díaz and he is from the western area of Rosario, his AKA to compete is Nasir Catriel.
His debut in Freestyle
Catriel’s kick-off to freestyle was the legendary battle between Dtoke and Stigma in the 2013 Red Bull International Final, already a classic among freestyle fans. This cross, which represents how spicy Dtoke confrontations tend to be, inspired him to start practicing the discipline.
Between 2016 and 2017, he finally started participating in Rosario competitions, such as Azcue Free and Rosario Under Free. Little by little, he added experience and armed himself with a name on the stage.
The other face of Nasir
Nasir Catriel is not only a freestyler, he is also a musical artist. He has the same pseudonym to release music and since his debut in 2018 he already has 2 EPs and many singles to his credit. He is also part of the Rosario Kids collective with his friends and representatives of Rosario rap: Fasciolo, Tuerto, NK, GW, Kiry, Mercy A, Pol and Taka.
Why should we pay attention to it?
The profile of this MC stands out for his dual status of freestyler/musical artist, two things that complement each other very well when it comes to improvising against a rival. On this, Nasir Catriel is not only a competitor who also makes music, like there are many others, but both his improvisational recitation and his writing are full of poetry.
What’s coming
Nasir Catriel was just a few points away from challenging for promotion to the FMS in the playoffs, finishing “in the top 5 of the most rapped country in the world” as he wrote on Instagram. We know he will be there to cheer on his teammates as always and another exhibition battle cannot be ruled out, like the one he had against Efrum, on our country’s professional league stage.
