Sega has released more information on how you’ll be able to power up Ryoma Sakamoto in Like a Dragon: Ishin through training. Ryoma will have a different teacher for each of his four fighting styles. Additionally, for min-maxers, you can get exclusive weapon materials from places like the Colosseum or the Battle Dungeon. (Thanks, 4Gamer!)
William is his teacher for the Gunslinger Stance. As Ryoma upgrades his aim, he can unlock special balls, such as elemental balls. You will have to face William as part of his training. More teachers will appear for the training as it progresses Like a Dragon: Ishin. The more you train with them, the more techniques Ryoma can use. Some training menus use mini-games instead, such as destroying training dummies within a time limit or position limit. Another mini-game requires you to cut down cannons flying at you.
Once you complete your training, Ryoma can test his skills in combat. You can search for wanted criminals and fight them after a chase sequence. Rewards include cash and revelations. Battle Dungeon will also feature powerful enemies similar to wanted criminals. However, there will also be traps to avoid, as well as mini-quests like rescuing trapped townspeople.
As mentioned above, the Battle Dungeon is where you can get exclusive items to upgrade your weapons. This also means that you will have different challenges, such as a large number of armed enemies. This will force you to use different strategies or tactics than how you fight outdoors.
Finally, there is a Colosseum where you can fight to your heart’s content for valuables. There is a knockout tournament that will give rare weapon materials, as well as the chance to fight powerful enemies with unique weapons. There’s also a mode where you have to fight 100 enemies, and your prize money increases based on how many you defeat. A limitation to this is that you cannot change your fighting style. Both Battle Dungeon and Coliseum can be considered endgame content.
Like a Dragon: Ishin is due out February 21, 2023 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.
